Description

Starting from Milo, a small town at an altitude of 700 meters above sea level, you’ll immediately face some demanding climbs leading up to higher elevation. The road generally has little traffic and you can enjoy the surrounding views of ancient craters and lush forests as you cycle. On one side you can admire the view of the beautiful Ionian Sea while on the other there are dense forests growing on volcanic soil. The environment changes dramatically as you ascend with vegetation becoming sparser and sparser until the landscape is dominated by solid lava from both recent and old lava flows, showing evidence of the volcano’s constant volcanic activity.

The route winds through hairpin bends that challenge even experienced cyclists, but beginners can also enjoy the beauty of the surrounding nature. As you reach higher altitude, the grandeur of Mount Etna with the often smoking North-East crater in the foreground, will leave you speechless. Climbing Mount Etna on a road bike is not just a workout, but also a true adventure that stays in the hearts of those who experience it!
