Milo, Sant’Alfio and the Hundred-Horse Chestnut on e-bikes
History and glimpses of Etna landscape blend in this two-hour bike tour, suitable for everybody and set around the villages on the east side of the volcano.
We’ll start our bike tour by cycling on a secondary street that passes through the hamlet of Praino, home to Franco Battiato’s iconic residency of Villa Grazia. While descending we will be able to spot the town of Sant’Alfio in the distance, surrounded by vineyards and woods all the way down to the sea. Once we reach the center of Sant’Alfio we’re greeted by the Mother Church, known for its façade made entirely of lava stone. A short uphill section will then lead us to the majestic Hundred-Horse Chestnut, one of the oldest trees in Europe, rich in history and ancient legends. Back on our bikes, we’ll resume our ride on the provincial road, with a wonderful view of Mount Etna opening up in front of us. One final descent, suspended between the volcanic landscape and the Ionian Sea, will lead us back to Milo.
