Description

The Giro dei Nebrodi. Explore the mountain trails of the Parco dei Nebrodi, the largest protected wild area in Sicily.

We will start from Randazzo, a delightful medieval village nestled between the Alcantara river and Mount Etna, and cycle towards the small mountain village Floresta. The trail will take us past the Santa Maria del Bosco mountain hut before continuing up the Alcantara River to Floresta.  We’ll have a short stop with a packed lunch and there will be time to taste some of the delicious local Nebrodi meat and cheese products. Leaving Floresta, we will continue on the famous Dorsale dei Nebrodi (Nebrodi ridge), an exciting route that runs from east to west along the entire mountain range. You will bike through dense forest with plenty of indigenous flora and fauna to see along the trails. There are many canyons and beautiful views of Mount Etna, the Tyrrhenian and Ionian coasts on this trail. We will return by the Masseria Zarbata and bike down along the Flascio stream, before arriving back in Randazzo where a visit to the wonderful medieval churches and buildings is a must. Before ending this fantastic excursion, a good glass of Etna wine will be a just reward for the day’s hard work!
